PREVIEW: LION CUBS V WORKINGTON (NDL + KOC)

THE Lion Cubs now have the opportunity to all-but seal their place in the Grand Final if they can take maximum points at home to Workington on Saturday (6.30pm).

They face the Comets twice in one evening at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park, as the NDL match will be followed up by the second leg of the KO Cup semi-final between the clubs.

In the league, the Lion Cubs trail by 11 points for the aggregate bonus whilst in the Cup they hold a handy 16-point advantage from the first leg.

Ashton Boughen is expected to return to the team after missing Friday’s win at Belle Vue as he was on Championship duty, whilst Alfie Bowtell guests at No.1 for the injured Dan Thompson.

Ironically Boughen was taken out at Glasgow on Friday by Ace Pijper, who rides for the Comets in the NDL, but Boughen was able to continue in the meeting whereas Pijper withdrew.

Workington include British Under-21 Champion Connor Bailey and fast-rising star Luke Harrison, with Kai Ward stepping in at reserve after Harry McGurk elected to take a break from racing.

Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “We have the league match first and that’s a big one because we’ve got to win by 12 points to get the aggregate point.

“Then we’ve got to defend our 16-point lead in the Cup so it’s a really important night for us.”

Supporters are asked to note the early 6.30pm start time for the double header, and admission prices are: Adults £20, Concessions £15, Kids £1, Season Ticket holders £10.

LEICESTER: Alfie Bowtell, Ashton Boughen, Max Perry, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Vinnie Foord, Max James.
WORKINGTON: Connor Bailey, Luke Crang, Luke Harrison, Sam McGurk, Ace Pijper, Elliot Kelly, Kai Ward.
